Hi! My name is Alexa, I am the founder/owner of Rae Metals. Why did I start Rae Metals? I started Rae Metals because I was lost in what path to follow for college. I thought I wanted to be an Architect and even got a scholarship through a high school program but, I knew I wasn’t going to do well with the schooling. I ended up taking a few classes at my community college with Architecture still in the back of my mind. Most of my courses were in art and history since that's what I enjoyed most. I saw that they offered a Jewel and Metalwork class so I took that class not once but twice and almost took it a third time. It was much different from my drawing classes. In the class, we worked with brass and copper but I started to venture into sterling silver. I loved it! To me, the look of silver and working with it was much different than that of brass or copper. I started collecting tools at home and working for hours on pieces in my basement. Again being lost in my schooling/career path this new hobby became a constant thought for me. Rae Metals has become my new career path and I have found that to be a great relief.
A little about me…  I live in the Metro Detroit area and have plans to move myself and Rae Metals to Northern Michigan in the next few years. I have always been told that I am a creative person and I think I can agree with that. While metalsmithing is my main passion; during the winter I enjoy crocheting and baking; while during the summer I work at a golf course as a bartender.
